Local Home Services is a consumer education and referral service for homeowners in the United States. Our readers are people who own a house, have a project in front of them, and have not done this recently enough to feel confident. Replacing windows. Deciding whether a seventeen year old furnace is worth one more repair. Getting a roof looked at after a hailstorm. Trying to work out why one bid is half the price of another.

What we do

We publish plain-language guidance on planning, pricing, and hiring for common home improvement work, and we connect homeowners who ask for it with licensed contractors in their area who can quote the job.

The articles come first. We write about how quotes are structured, what a warranty actually covers, how to verify a license and an insurance certificate, and which projects return the most per dollar. Nothing in that library requires you to give us your phone number. If after reading it you decide you want quotes, our request form passes your project details to home improvement professionals who serve your ZIP code so they can contact you with pricing.

How we make money

We are not a contractor and we do not perform home improvement work. We are compensated by the home improvement companies and marketing partners we connect homeowners with. That is worth stating plainly, because it is the reason this site exists and because you should know it when you read a recommendation anywhere on the internet.

It also shapes a rule we hold ourselves to: the educational material has to be useful whether or not you ever fill out a form. A homeowner who reads our contractor vetting checklist, hires someone they found themselves, and never contacts us again is a good outcome.

What we are not

We do not perform inspections, we do not carry a contractor license, and we do not supervise the companies a homeowner ultimately hires. Contractor licensing, insurance requirements, permitting, and consumer protection rules are set at the state and local level, and we encourage every reader to verify a contractor's credentials directly with their state licensing board before signing anything.
